I'm at the NSA trusted computing conference in Orlando this week. Tonight I saw one of those things that just made me laugh because it was contextually funny.
My card quit working for my room door so I had to jump through the hoops at the front desk proving who I was and they finally sent security up. He declared to battery dead in the lock and came back with a tool to fix it. It is a curved metal rod with a cord on it. It slides under the door and rocks up to hook the handle and he pulls the cord to open the door. I made the observation to the guard the "I had to come to an NSA conference to see how to get through the electronic door locks." Even he saw the humor in that.
He replaced the batteries and all now seems to be working again.
