We have a friend's father come over on a semi-regular basis, we call him Hunter Bill.

Coons he traps and releases about 6 miles away in the country, after tagging their tail with red spray paint to make sure they don't come back

Skunk he traps and shoots, no way to live release them

Rabbits, if they end up in the trap we let them go, our garden protection works and I think the little buggers are cute

He dreams of the day he'll get a coyote, but not sure if I can condone killing them, too doglike.

Payment is handled in the form of a handle of Early Times and some cheap cigars under a planter every few weeks.

Yall must not be from around here? Don't yall have coon dogs and hunt coons? Lots of folks down here have a great time doing it and there are several big meets and coon dog shows a year here, with close to a thousand dogs and a lot of competition. A good coon dog sometimes sells for more than the price of a new car. You can tell when there is a big coon dog meet because the roads are full of jacked up 4 wheel drive trucks with dog boxes.

I've had to trap many coons and possums out of my attic and relocate them... Finally redid the aluminum soffits to some they can't yank out to get in there. For a while there, it felt like I was running a halfway house for wayward critters.

We get quite a few coons around here at times but my neighbor keeps them under control. He has two yellow labs that will tree them and then he uses a 25-06 trap.

Guess I have to disagree with not being able to trap & release skunks. I have a live trap that I bait with cat food. Works very well! When I find a skunk the next morning I take an old shop blanket and hold it in front of me with outstretched arms so the skunk can't see me. Cover the whole trap with the blanket. I then put trap in the back of the Gator and take it a couple of miles away. Have yet to get sprayed, couple of times I've had to tip the trap up to encourage the skunk to leave. One time I got a Mama and 3 babies in one go!
Can't bide shooting them; THEN you can be sure you'll smell it!!!

What y'all got against these little fellows?

                  BTW
In some states it's not legal to move skunks off of your property, it's a rabies control issue. May apply to other animals too.

                  Bill
over here where as long as they bother the neighbors dogs raccoons are tolerated.
