What are your opinions on this 2-pack of dewalt saw blades from lowes. I casually use my saw - I have owned it for about 7-8 yrs, yesterday I noticed when cutting some thick maple that it was really struggling (burning the wood). Its going to cost ~15 bucks to get my blade sharpened, I was at lowes and picked that two pack of blades yesterday for 40 bucks. It is worth even getting my blade resharpened? The only reason I am doing it is bc Norm once said to never throw away an old saw blade. I read some of the posts on saw blades this morning - I will probably wait to hear what you all say and can still return these blades b/c they are unopened if something else pops up better. Thanks in advance for the advice/recomendations. I am willing to buy two blades if you know of any great deals - I saw the Freud on clearance at Rockler and am considering it.

As far as sharpening goes, the only real consideration is the cost of the blade and what a replacement would cost. A ww2, absolutely. a Black and Decker, not so much:-)
Generally speaking, dw makes decent stuff, though not world class saw blades. At that price, they will perform pretty well imho, as long as you're not expecting ww2 performance from them. You pretty much do get what you pay for with saw blades.
If there is a comparable Freud blade (config and price), I would take a hard look at that first though. You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice. -
if you are a casual user, are you willing to change blades when necessary?
If you buy a 2-pack with a (looks like 60T and 32T) then you should use the 60T for crosscuts and the 32T for rip cuts. Maybe the 32T will make fair crosscuts if you are not too fussy and save changing blades.
If you prefer not to change blades then consider a combo blade like the BT original.

I think if I had two blades, I would probably change them for their particular use. Is the Freud blade that is on clearance at Rockler for 29 bucks suitable for a table saw (the name implies a miter saw). I would think they serve the same purpose...Comment

Chris - DW does have some nice blades but the two you've got are construction grade that are not well suited for woodworking IMHO. You're saw deserves better, and so do you...the DW Precision Trim series (all yellow coating) is very good and often a great value. Their former series 60 was excellent...NOS is still around on occasion.
$40 will buy you one fairly nice blade...better to have one good blade than two mediocre blades IMO. I'd be inclined to return those and grab something better like the CMT P10050 50T combo blade that Lowes has. Or go to HD and get a Freud Diablo D1040 ($30) general purpose blade, or kick in more money and grab a complimenting pair of blades like the Diablo 24T D1024 ($28) and 60T D1060 ($39) .
The Freud TK806 at Rockler is a nice 80T crosscut blade...you'll still want a ripper or general purpose blade to compliment it.Last edited by Knottscott; 05-19-2010, 09:45 AM.Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

I have had good luck with Hitachi blades. I have a 40 thooth blade I got on sale from Amazon for $15.00 and it makes great cuts. I upgraed to a Forress WW2, but I still use the Hitachi blade for cutting junk plywood and MDF. I also have 2 Hitach 72 tooth blades. One is on my miter saw and the other I use on the table saw if I am cutting a lot of plywood. I think the 72 blades were $40.00 each at Lowes. They have been great blades.Comment

My DW756 TS came with a 40 tooth DW blade. I can only rate that blade as OK, I replaced it with a WW2 and that blade is fantastic, all the difference in the world.Comment

It's a blade design made by Forrest, the Woodworker II. http://www.forrestblades.com/woodworker_2.htm
I've got a couple, both thin kerf and ATB, one a 30T and a recently purchased 40T. I got the first on Amazon and the second at Woodcraft. They are good blades. I've been considering getting the custom #1 grind of the 40T blade.ErikComment

WWII - fine blade
WWII - by Forrest. I have 2, 10" x 40T in thick and thin kerfs.
Great blade. There are others that equal it but probably none that surpass it by any measureable amount.
THey have been on sale in the 90+ range in the not to distant past... look at Rockler and Woodcraft.

So I went with the 60 tooth crosscut Freud blade from Home Depot. I think relative to what I had on there, anything would have been better. It cut through my 2" thick maple slab with no effort. I am surprised I didn't cut a finger off muscling the wood through the dull blade. The difference was incredible and it really makes me appreciate my saw again. My original combination blade is getting sharpened as we speak. Anyways - thanks for all the advice.Comment
