This is so true. To love them while we can is an honor. They look at us as their caretakers...we are EVERYTHING to them. We are all they have in life. They love us for all we do...their food, their maintenance, their fun. When they leave us, their compassion rests in the next pet that's just waiting for us to adopt.

So sorry to hear about Deacon. Our pets, and dogs in particular, are a fountain of unquestioning love. You returned that love by setting him free of his ailing body. His spirit is still very much alive.

You KNOW I know this... But I can't help but think maybe there was something more we could have done... And I know there wasn't, but I can't help but feel a little bit like I let him down...

Absolutely not. You put your personal wishes aside to do the right thing for a friend who deserved your best.

This is never an easy decision, but I am sure it was the right one. It is amazing how different a home feels after a pet is gone. Still getting used to our oldest dog and cat not being around that we had to say goodbye to nearly two years ago, even though we got two dogs left.

              I feel for you.
