I've never owned or changed a tire on a minivan - do they mount the spare on a winch under the vehicle, like a pickup truck? I've wondered about the cable on my pickup, but it seems to be in reasonable condition and it seems like it would largely be protected by the spare.Last edited by woodturner; 04-18-2010, 05:24 AM.--------------------------------------------------

Depends on the van. In our Plymouth, I don't remember where the spare was. I think in a well in the floor. In our Odyssey it is in the left rear passenger compartment. There is even a plastic bag in there for the tire you take off since it would be dirty.David

my dodge van has the spare on a winch under the back underneath... You access the crank from the inside floor.

I wonder if the rusted cables are in areas of Ice ad Snow and is because of the salt used on the roads during the winter. Bothr our Vehicles. Ford Expeditin and Toyota Tacoma have the spare under the vehicle and use the cable winch system to lower them.

In the article they state that the concern is proloned exposure to road salts.
I've never been happy with the concept of a spare outside of the vehicle. What about non Toyota's that are in the same situation?Last edited by Richard in Smithville; 04-18-2010, 01:18 PM.From the "deep south" part of Canada
