    Mustang P51D - model

Well, the model arrived safely (hand delivered!) – but not quite what I expected in a “kit”.

I expected something that would take me “several months” to put together. Took me about an hour L

Looks great, beautifully detailed – incredibly detailed in fact. Made in China (where else), under license to Boeing.

    Model size (1/18 scale): Length 540mm (21-1/4"), Wingspan 640mm (25").

May y'all rot in aitch ee double hockey sticks !!! On a whim I searched for avro arrow. Found both the 201 and the 203. I have 5 years until I retire. I have no place left to store an unfinished or finished model. What to do? I'm going to pretend I never saw this thread and perhaps the itch to own will subside. 0.

Unfortunately it's a bit too small to fly. On the other hand, I'm not sure I could afford the fuel bills for a flyable version.

Also unfortunately, the remaining supply of flyable airplanes continues to shrink:

Plane Crash at Stellar Air Park in Chandler
          Pilot is killed, hangar charred

CHANDLER - Authorities say a World War II-era plane crashed Thursday afternoon at Chandler's Stellar Airpark, killing the pilot and charring at least one hangar at the facility.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the single-engine P-51D Mustang crashed into a hangar at the airpark about 1:20 p.m. MST.

Authorities evacuated nearby hangars after one caught fire following the crash. The blaze was quickly extinguished and fire crews are sifting through the debris to determine if there were any other victims.

Gregor says the circumstances of the crash are unclear, but FAA investigators are en route to the airport.

The name of the pilot was not immediately released. The East Valley Tribune reported that the plane was registered to Hirani Oil Arizona, which appears to be a sales and property management company in Chandler.

Did Boeing buy out North American somewhere along the way?

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful planes ever made. Pilots adored it, never a bad word... Good manners, fly forever, turn on a "relative" dime, kick some butt... Eat 109's for breakfast...

                    Is it an RC model?

3500 watts is like 4.3 to 4.5 HP or so.
Does a 50CC engine put out like that? 50CC = 3 cu inches.

I thought a Briggs and stratton lawnmower engine is in the 4 HP class...
Kinda big for even for that model?

A niMH battery pack is like 19.2 2AH on cordless drills.
a 44V pack would be more than four of those packs and would run for about 1 and a half minutes putting out 80 Amps.

are you sure about the numbers?

                            A DL-55E (55cc) puts out 5.5HP..
These are light high performance engines..

For the electric the batteries would be 30C 12S2P (12 in parallel x 2 in series)
Lipos put out 3.7v pr cell.. I can get 6S 5000mah packs.
It would take 4 of those.. so 44.4v and 10,000Mah (10ah)

Maybe 7-10 min for a high performance flight. 15-20 if I keep the throttle at 1/2 or so..

Loring, the power-to-weight ratio of a Lipo pack has to be seen to be believed! It's these packs that have REALLY caused e-flight to take-off (pun intended).
