If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

45 years ago, when I started as a newbie technician for Univac, my lab supervisor sent me to the tool crib for a metric adjustable end wrench.

The guys at the crib and my lab buddies all had a great time at my expense.

I just wish I'd had one of these to bring back to the lab!

You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

Adjustable Wrench -- SAE and Metric

I have seen adjustable wrenches with SAE markings on one side and metric on the other, but it was listed as a 10" wrench with a capacity of 1 1/4"

That was a Canadian adjustable wrench, they don't work very well down here. It probably has markings in French too, unless it is an antique.

If you shop at a good tool supply house, you can find those wrenches in both metric and SAE. Likewise, I've got a pliers that fits both. They will also have regular monkey wrenches and "ape" wrenches. I also bought hammers that can be used with either hand.

That's too bad that they exist cause it sure would make a great Lee Valley Aprils Fools ad.

If it were a MOTORIZED metric wrench, then we'd be talking about something!

                          So, here's the proof:

                          Craftsman 250mm wrench
                          Pittsburgh 10" wrench

OK, so a little april fools.
