Well ya,ll gonna love this, Went to the local wallyworld yesterday to get my fishin lic. for the year and they refused to take cash!, What I said, Yes Sir we only take debit or credit, no cash. Well I got so flusstered I walked out and came home and immediately got on the phone with 3 state reps. Well gotta call back from 2 today and there both incensed with the idea as well. Come to find out its a deal the state made with a bank in Missouri of all places to handle the DNR accounts. Lets see how much longer this last,cause I figure not everyone has a debit or credit card, but should be allowed to purchase a license without the hassle. Kudows to my state rep though he,s a sportsman as well as an avid woodworker

Just like in Wisconsin, you can pay cash if you want but it means you have to ignore the convienence of buying it at Walmart, or another retailer, and going down to the DNR office yourself.

Personally I have no problem with the debit/credit card route since I live in Illinois and do my fishing in Wisconsin, making a quick stop to the DNR office a little impossible.

Anyways, the DNR not having to accept and process cash from remote sites saves on positions, ones that get benefits and retirement. If you want the cost of a couple processors, a supervisor and a director over all of them to be added to the cost of your hunting/fishing license have at it.

Me, I'm happy to use a debit/credit card and save myself and everyone else some money.

The Georgia fishing license requires your ss #. I have a real problem revealing this # to unsavory characters at the bait shops. Complaints do no good, just get a reply of that is how we do it.

So if they were to accept cash, do these remote locations really just stick it in an envelope and send it in? When they process the credit/debit cards does it go straight to the DNR? I would think that there is some sort off accounting process and the stores cut a check for the license fees collected (or electronic transfer). I could see no problems with there being a policy that retailers can only remit the fees collected electronically though.

It may be a case of just not wanting to be responsible for cash, and maintaining cash records.

I know the feeling. I did not have a debit/credit card for a while and when I went to pay our cell phone bill one day at the local authorized retail store here in town I hand them some cash for the bill and they told me there was a 5.00 "convience fee". I could not believe this. I asked if there was a way around it since we have been customers for quite a while now and they apologized and said no. But if I wanted to go to a "corporate store" (which BTW is 35 miles away) they have a machine that you put your money into and won't charge you anything. So I told them it wasn't an conveinience fee but it was inconvient. They young man behind the counter snickered.

But there are other options if you don't have a card to pay for things these days. There are pre-paid reloadable Visa and Mastercards out there.

Kind of on the same subject I am moving and decided to fill out a change of address card online. I got all done they asked for my credit card number so they could verify that I was woho I said I was by charging me a buck. I know it doesn't seem like much but I will just go to the post office and do it for free.

Just to clarify something here. I have several C.Cards, I just didn,t like the idea that it could ONLY be purchased with either of the 2. Last time I checked the money in my wallet still had Legal Tender written all over it and this is just another way for some bank to make a buck, like they don,t allready. My complaint which was echoed by my state rep was the fact that some folks just don,t have those and shouldn,t be bothered to have one if they chose not to.. Afterall these are our state resources were talking about, not some bank in Missouri,s.Gawd I,m getting so tired of all the greed in this country, but hey where you gonna go?

Two things here from me.
The county I live in does not accept any plastic anywhere, whatsoever. No check cards, no CC, no debit cards. Cash only.
I am a married man. Therefore I carry no cash. Generally very little. Less than $50. I have a check card for my business accounts, Paypal and a couple others I carry. No dice in Baldwin County for anything. License, tags, permits, fines, notaries, county dump etc. I asked several times why they do not accept CC. All replies were that it would cost the county extra to be able to use CC. That much I know and is why I use paypal to accept CC for me. However, they have no trouble overcharging us for most things, why not relay that cost on to the consumer? For convenience?

A couple months back, I wrote my employee, Son, a paycheck on my business account. He took it to my bank and they charged him $5 to cash it. A business check payroll type from the same bank. I get so upset over crap like that. The next week I had him in the listing as a signer on that account. Sent him up there with two Leeway Workshop checks to cash for his payroll.
There was about 5 grand in that account at the time. They would not cash them. They said they had to deposit them or they would be held responsible.
I know for a fact that is a lie. They charge the customer when a check doesn't clear.
I have a personal checking, business checking, savings, and an IRA at this bank. Nearly ready to transfer it all to a Folger's can in the back yard.
My luck though, the squirrels would charge me rent on the hole.

Very interesting... printed right on our currency it says "This note is legal tender for ALL debts, public and private". Just food for thought!

Well I got my license, I went up the road a bit to a little Mom an Pop baitshop and they said sure no problem and bought it with cash on the spot, Turns out its just Wallyworld doing that. How much you wanna bet that bank has some affiliation w/Wallyworld and holds that money for 30 days or so before payin it back to the state of Ga. or who knows how many other states. Greeedy B*****ds

By the time the Fox River gets to me it is so laden with nutrients and pollution to have much hope of catching anything other than a masochistic mutated catfish.

In order to get to any decent holes I have to either drive two hours south to Central Illinois or SouthWestern Wisconsin where my family lives or near Sheboygan where I grew up.
