Even used I would have thought that they were well maintained...I guess not.

Well maintained is not the same as run into the ground. Well maintained involves replacing things as needed (they tend to notice even the littlest misfire, since they live on/in their vehicles), where run into the ground is the wear on the gears/motor/drivetrain, etc. from high speed pursuits, lots of miles, etc.

I still want to build a bike. After my last few bike experiences, I am not sure I want to ride one.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

How about this...run into the ground, and not well maintained.

Never ridden one, but a neighbor of mine has a Buell. It is a very American take on what a Sport Bike should be. Not exactly refined, but with lots of power, handling, and braking to spare. Pretty loud too...

I sold my bike a Bridgestone, when I got married, in 1971. I have kept my motorcycle option on my license. I still miss it.

My friend owns a bike shop and said basically the same thing. A lot of city garages don't have the trained mechs to properly maintain the bikes in top shape and outside service isn't in the budget. Add that to the abuse the bikes take.

Phase 1 is now complete. After 5 weeks of CL Ads, my Boulevard left for a new home yesterday. A gal from Freeport responded to my ad last week and drove up yesterday. She had over ran/missed a curved on her '07 Boulevard and the insurance company totaled it. A friend bought her's from the ins co, and came with her to ride mine back to Freeport, since she is still nursing a couple of bad ribs from the accident. After he took off, she followed me to the Credit Union, gave me the cash, and waited while I paid off the note and got the title released.

Phase 2 is in the works. I have a tenative deal made on another bike. Barring finding that the owner misrepresented the condition, I should take possession either tomorrow or Friday. Further details will be provided when it is a done deal...
