Veteran's Discount at Lowes or HD

I have asked for and gotten the veterans discount at both HD and Lowes until yesterday. I usually only ask for it if spending over $50. We decided to buy new lighting for outside the house and found what we wanted at Lowes. I asked for the vets discount and found out that I had to have a photo ID to get it now. I usually just show them my AL Lifer's card. I told them that I didn't have a photo ID because as far as I knew only retired or active military were issued photo ID's, but I was a veteran having served 3 years. So no discount. I told them they need to not call it a veteran's discount if it didn't include all veterans. I left without buying the lights. If I go by the PO and get a movers kit with the discount card I may go back. Or maybe not.

Last month I bought 6 sheets of 3/4" ply at HD and they asked if I was a vet and gave me the discount without showing any card or ID. Has anyone else been denied because of no photo ID at either store?

Veteran's Discount At Lowes & HD

I'm in the Jax, FL area and they ask to see my retired military ID card whenever I ask for the discount. No exceptions.

I've never asked for the discount, but I still have my last photo ID showing my rank at discharge. Is that good enough?

I never remember to ask, and I have a retired ID in my walllet!

I've used a copy of my DD-214 as proof of my service when required. If it's for veterans than all who served should qualify. There are alot of deals that specifically state active or retired, but that doesn't sound like the case here.

In Our local Lowes some of the cashiers know Me and never ask for My ID, some don't and ask, I whip our My VA card and it is good to go. Even then a head cashier has to approve the discount. Bill

I was asked one time and I joked that my experience was only ROTC, actually I was 4 F.

She said that is good enough and gave me the discount. I was annoyed, because I am not a Vet and I didn't deserve it.

The cashier pulled out some paperwork that showed what ID's they could accept, all had photos on them. I did a google search and found that on Feb 11, 2010 "Lowe’s Companies, Inc. announced this week that it is expanding its support of the military by offering an all day, every day 10 percent discount to all military personnel who are active, reserve, retired or disabled veterans and their family members, with a valid, government-issued military ID card.

All other military veterans will receive the discount on the Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day weekends."

I couldn't find any current info on HD. I had never knew Lowes offered a discount until we were buying some shrubs at Lowes in Cookeville, TN, and the cashier asked me if I was a vet. I replied "yes" and she said I could get a 10% discount all the time just by asking. Since the sales tax is 9.75% I decided to take advantage of the 10% to offset it. The closest HD is about 50 miles away from us in TN. The local ACE is huge and has a good supply of ply, PT, etc, and free delivery so maybe "ACE is the place" from now on while in TN. As for FL, will have to see what HD is doing.
