Is anybody else bored out of their skull by NBC's decision to cover figure skating, in its entirety for the last several nights running? I watched the first few nights thinking they would cut away to other sports, but after only seeing 3 or 4 minutes of every hour be non-figure skating I gave up and will start watching again after the figure skating is over.

I keep hoping to catch stuff like Hockey, and Snowboarding. I could care less about figure skating. LOML on the other hand, is riveted...Please like and subscribe to my YouTube channel. Please check out and subscribe to my Workshop Blog. -
Thank you, Crockett!
I know that figure skaters are athletic, dedicated, hard-working, inspirational, and can do things that I will never be able to do. But, if it takes a panel of judges to judge them it ain't a sport. Bodybuilders are also athletic, dedicated, inspirational, yada, yada, yada, but bodybuilding ain't a sport.
The speed skater who crosses the finish line ahead of the closest competitor is engaged in a sport. The swimmer who smacks the wall before anybody else is engaged in a sport. The figure skater who dances on ice in a particularly beautiful and difficult way is engaged in an athletic performance art. Same goes with diving, gymnastics, snowboarding, etc. I couldn't care less about an activity that requires a panel of judges with arcane and specialized knowledge to determine who won. Might as well watch the American Kennel Club.
Okay, now y'all can hang me for heresy.- Chris.Comment

Well you could switch to CNBC and watch the curling. ;-)Is anybody else bored out of their skull by NBC's decision to cover figure skating, in its entirety for the last several nights running? There is a lot of figure skating coverage at night, but I don't feel like the other sports are left out completely -- I think more of the other sports may be on during the day, or on affiliated channels. For example, we watched a hockey game on MSNBC, I think.
I'm not as interested in the figure skating, either, but it seems I've also gotten a good dose of moguls, luge, nordic combined, speed skating, and hockey.
You can also search/filter video coverage at http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/index.html.online at http://www.theFrankes.com

Re: Chris's rant, during one of our rides this past weekend, my biking buddy said, essentially out of nowhere, "And another thing ... the jumper who lands the farthest down the hill should win." I knew instantly what he was talking about, and couldn't agree more. As long as a ski jumper lands and stays upright, the tape measure should rule.
Re: curling, the only problem with it is that between USA, MS-NBC, and CNBC, they're airing more than I can record and watch! I know that a lot of people would rather watch paint dry, but I find the game absolutely mesmerizing. (Must have a recessive Canada gene, somewhere in my makeup ...)LarryComment

I thought luge would be exciting, given the speed and danger factor. I was wrong. Each and every run looked absolutely identical. I had no idea why one person was running faster than another. It was like a bunch of extras from "The Man Who Fell to Earth" were going down a long curvy ditch on Red Rider sleds.
Not to diss them, they are obviously elite athletes. But, as a spectator sport, it sucks. I preferred the downhill skiing and snowboarding.
As far as skating goes, well, the outfits and music turn me off...Jeff

Ditto on that. Maybe they should consider luge and bobsled cross in the next
Olympics. Multiple lugers and bobsledderss on the same course vying for top
spot. There could be section that squeeze down to one or two lanes just to
make it even more interesting.Comment

Have you seen the POV footage that was taken using a camera mounted (on the helmet, I think) to one of the lugers? Now THAT was exciting -- at least for the luger. I would have to agree that watching it, at least on TV, is a little flat. They're going so bloody fast that it's virtually impossible to pick up the nuances that make one run 0.0000746 seconds faster than another.LarryComment
