I spent some time away from my wife and kids over the weekend and found plenty of time to enjoy a cigar. My wife bought be a handful of cigars last year at Father's Day, and I never got the opportunity to enjoy them until now.

One was a C.A.O Brazilia. I recall lots of cigars that really stand out in my past, but this one was a home run. I don't know if it was the circumstances, the crowd, the particular beer, or what. But I wasn't prepared for the quality of the cigar that I was presented with.

I know for a fact that she bought this stick totally blind, and said "eenie-meenie..." while in the tobacco shop. I just don't recall having a cigar that really caught my attention the way this one did.

Do any of you have recommendations for cigars? Or pleasant surprise stories like this? I normally prefer a mild-medium smoke, but this one was supposedly a full bodied cigar, and I loved it.

R&j

when my daughter was born, one of my best friends bought me a box of Romeo y Julieta in the tubes. I'm not sure the specific classification as far as reserva, especial, etc., but they are incredibly smooth smokes with a nice rich flavor, pleasant and mild. I started with a whole box, but im down to only a handful, good stuff. I highly recommend the r&js, they are a great smoke and not too bad price-wise either.

I prefer pipes to cigars, but I second the motion for the R&Js. They were the only cigar I've ever really enjoyed.

Back in my younger days when I smoked, I mainly smoked the R&J's too, except when I played pool. Then it was the old King Edward. I still don't know why that was my pool playing cigar.

When I lived in Germany I used to smoke Juan Clementes occasionally--rather hard to find these days. Partagas is another brand I have always enjoyed.

Now I have cigars a couple of times a year, usually when I'm in a cigar-friendly city like Miami or New Orleans.There are a lot of good ones out there, but often if there's a store making cigars I will just ask their advice for a smooth cigar and try it.

My definition of a good cigar is admittedly naive, but it's one which goes well with a brandy, enhances the appetite and doesn't destroy my taste buds in the process.

one pleasant surprise that comes to mind, i bought a couple of Don Tomas maduros(darker, typically stronger, fwiw) expecting not to be able to finish them, turns out they were a smooth spicy smoke that really turned me into on that appreciates the maduro, instead of fearing it...they are definitly full-bodied, but ive learned to embrace it---lol, cautiously

Those Don Tomas are pretty nice... It's been a while, but one of my all time favorites is the Arturo Fuente Curly Head Deluxe Maduro .

When Ike was howling over our heads, the friend we were evacuated to and I were sitting on his back deck (the leeward side) smoking a couple of those, sipping Xalixco Tequila, and watching the trees bend in the wind... Utter civility in the middle of insane chaos... I've still got some of that Tequila, but alas... No more cigars...

Not in the same class as some mentioned, but my favorites were Gold Label Dino and A&C Grenadiers. Both non-aromatic cigars and fairly mild.
