Cool site. You can also get lots of info about any year from wikipedia.org -- including events, births, deaths, introductions, year by topic, by country, by month, or even decade and century -- all with no pop-ups.
Different info, though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1969 -- just type your year instead of 1969.
Similarly you can check out any date (spanning years): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_1
To get things like the weather, moon phase and other cool stuff, for any date at just about any place, go to http://www.wolframalpha.com and type in something like "January 1, 1969 in Okinawa, Japan" -- it was completely cloudy all day there.
