I just have to brag a bit...

My son was recently accepted to Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. He will start in the fall. He is a Senior this year, goes to the local high school in the morning and the VoTech in the afternoon for Information Technology training. This year for VoTech he was selected to get a co-op job with a local computer firm, so he will graduate with a year's solid experience building and troubleshooting systems.

The best news, though, is what he got in the mail today. The college awarded him a $16,000 scholarship based on his grades, and they want to interview him to possibly give him a scholarship for his first year's tuition.

Yep, I am a proud papa!!!

Oh wow! That is great news. You have every reason to be proud. I don't know what your son is interested in, but from one who is in the industry, suggest to your son that he focus on the support side rather than the development side. If he is any good, he will always have a job. Computers break and somebody needs to fix them.

Also, he should learn as much as he can about storage networking and IP networking. Massive amounts of data are being generated and it all has to be stored some place. My job is to keep all that equipment running.

Congratulations Jerry, to you and to your son! That is great. Let us know if he gets the full scholarship! That would be great!

That's excellent. With college costs the way they are, a nice chunk of money like that will help defray a lot of the expense.

Good on ya both! It takes a bit of guiding to get a kit to the adult stage and you both did your part!

Outstanding!!! Congrats to your son for such an achievement. You hear a lot about how indifferent, lazy and unmotivated the youth are today (seems like they say that about every generation) but you don't get to hear about the success stories very often.

Congratulations! Diligence and hard work pay off again. It's always nice to hear about the parents and kids that are still doing it right.

Nicely done! Way to save dad a few bucks also! In times when the answer to how much do you make is 'not enough',that's some welcome cash.

Your son definitely shows the determination to succeed. Has he realized the gravity of what has been offered?
