It's a shame when one of these ego-basted hotheads does something stupid like this, and reflects badly on all the countless hard-working cops who have better judgment. I do sympathize...
I'm not trying to pass of what he did as right, but I think he did make a good point about throwing snow balls at cars. Driving in the snow is no easy task even if you know what you are doing, and a snowball could easily be the straw that breaks the camel's back and causes a big accident.
Admittedly, people shouldn't be throwing snowballs at cars, but I think this qualifies as a little bit of an over reaction. I am sure something else was bugging this guy and this was, as someone else here said, the straw .....
The thing that got me curious was how a guy could afford a Hummer on a police mans salary. I can't imagine needing one in D.C., so this is purely for show I guess. Who has that kind of money from a civil service job?
You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice.

It looks like a H3, and those don't go for much more than an average SUV.
Talking to BIL a retired cop, the guy was way off base and should loose his job. A bunch of people having a snowball fight on day like that and your Hummer gets hit so what. Lighten up. it won't be snowing tomorrow. Worked around Law Enforcement my whole working life and saw many Idiots like that get canned or at least some days off. He should be fired for pulling his gun.
Yes he was wrong. Maybe a little edgy. In our area 8 cops have been shot in the past couple of months. Five are dead and two are in intensive care.
That is very unfortunate. However, that risk goes with the job. Part of the training, and part of the responsibility one must accept with that job is self-control. You can't lose your temper, whip out your iron, and wave it at every kid with a snowball...

Possibly, but armed civilians that are "edgy" and whip out their piece unduly get either thrown in the clink, or put in a rubber room after being fitted with a self hugging jacket. Cops should be not only no different, but due to their training, held to a MUCH higher standard.
