    Another Kind Of Woodworking

Cut up two trees today. They got blown over this week. One was dead, other was alive but in a spot in the yard that collects water when it rains. We've had a lot in the last month and had a good hard rain Wednesday. I got both trees cut up and most of one split.

      I had to cut down 7 Almendra trees last week. LOML doesn't like them. Nurseries get $135 for a 5' - 7'. These were 15' - 20'.

Unfortunately no. These were pretty straight trees. The dead one I think was maple and was spalted. Nice and dry so it burns quite well.

Mine were all straight too. No burls or crotches.

Every year i cut down hundreds of oak trees myself.

Fortunately I get them when they are small and growing in the garden, the dirt in between the sections of the driveway and sometimes in my wife's flower pots. Those ****ed acorns fall everywhere.

OK, maybe I pull them up by the roots. They have impressive tap roots even when small, though.

Yes. I didn't know it was spalted until after I split it which was after it was already cut to firewood length. It was also already pretty chewed up by bugs. I might try to save a piece or two for turning.

We have close to a dozen black walnut trees in our back yard. I can empathize. Getting conked is a bummer.
