    Karmic justice.

If you had not heard by now there is a class action law suit in Canada by various music artists and in some cases their estates against the major record labels and the Canadian version of the RIAA. The suit claims that the music companies infringed on the copyrights held by the artists. The record companies were putting songs on compilation albums (CD's) and selling them without permission or compensation. The damages could total up to $60 billion Canadian. What it comes down to is the music companies are now pirates (their term) just like those poor folks they were suing for 1 or 2 songs and getting thousands per occurrence. I hope the class action filers win.

Good! Record companies, with few exceptions, are nothing but rapacious thieves. The average artist gets squat from record sales. The only way they make money is through concerts.

I don't fully agree. The poor folks were not taking any money for the songs they got or even shared illegally. Music companies were selling compilation CDs without having rights to the content. Music companies will be in deep trouble if court finds them guilty. I suspect this case will not get to court - music companies will make every effort to settle it before.

Gee, go figure, just like the politicians. The ones who profess their virtue the loudest inevitably are the ones caught with their neighbors wife, or tapping their toes in a public mens room. or whatever,. Then the crocodile tears start flowing...spare me!
I hope they get the same treatment they gave to individuals who downloaded, including jail time if anyone got that.

Unfortunately... the only "winners" will be the attorneys! IF they win, the filers will get a free CD of their choice and the attorneys will rake in MILLIONS!!!
