I Don't Need Another Thing To Fix

It got cold this weekend so I started the downstairs wood stove. My wife asked if I could start the one upstairs. We don't use it much - I don't think we used it all last winter. The fireplace was originally built for wood fires and has a damper. The wood stove is an insert type. I built a fire and it did not want to draft. I had the sweeps clean the chimney last fall. I think they left the damper in the fireplace closed. Now I will have to pull a large and very heavy wood stove to check.

Best thing I ever did ...

...was put one of those no-vent-required gas heaters in the shop. T-stat control too.

I would take a mirror and check it for a measuring spoon trapped between the blade and wall............ I now have a set of bent up stainless spoons and I only took the #$%^ thing out once

funny how the simple solution is obvious after doing it the hard way..

don't forget to try the key in the bottom to free it up.

You leave your flue damper open all of the time? Does the unit have it's own damper? Up here leaving a damper open for a month (when not in use) can add 30-50% to your heating bill...

The unit has its own damper. I have to leave the flue damper open. If I didn't I'd have to pull the stove out get to it each time I wanted to use the stove. At 400lbs+ that is not an easy job for this stove.
