    How long has it been?

Since you started woodworking I have made a few simple things in past years but more in the line of home improvements and utility stuff (butt joints, nails, screws). I made my first real WW project in 2001, a hall table for my daughter and her husband with 46 M&T joints.

Anything you built qualifies for you to answer, so don't be shy. Even if you only collect WW tools and have good intentions.

What got me thinking about this was a friend gave me a bunch of old Popular Woodworking mags from the early 1990's. Interesting reading to say the least

Started making serious sawdust in Mr. Lund's woodworking class in 1958 at Nokomis Jr. High. I've been building stuff ever since.

I bought my first BT3 clone (22811) 2 years ago and I've been enjoying my shop more than ever because of this cool saw.
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

Depends on what you want to call wood working..

I've been building R/C airplanes from balsa, ply and spruce on and off for 25 years..
I didn't get into what you would call traditional wood working until about 7 years ago when I bought a BT3100.

My first woodworking project was set of book ends when I was 12, 48 years ago. Worked in base hobby shops from 74 until about 95 when I built and started equiping the Playpen.

I played around in woodworking since I was a teen but I always say I really started when I built my daughters bed when she was five. That was nine-ten years ago and that bed is still as solid as the day it came out of the shop

First I did with actual plans and a goal was in 4-H, over 41 years ago. Still have the stool and bench hook that won me a blue ribbon.

I guess my first woodworking project was with my father when I was about 10 yrs old. We built an 8' wood pram together. I began woodworking as a profession in 1970.

Just like pappy, my first project was a set of bookends when I was ten. I won a red ribbon at the country fair. The stool I made in Jr High woodshop is now in my shop and my girls use it to reach the drill press and bandsaw.

Dabbled a bit in the early years, got serious in junior high, pro later, so I guess that makes it about 44 years. Gee that makes me sound old :-)

Back in '59. Granddad cut some wood for

a model airplane for me. Liked the wood working route, so when I got in Jr. High School, took wood working classes. First project was a rifle rack w/ammo storage space. Then a night table, then a ...
Off and on ever since. Working with wood is soothing to the soul.

Hmmm... Gotta think about this. Started with model airplanes, then wood shop in junior high, some minor stuff over the years. Then I bought my BT3100 and that really started the downhill slide into poverty and a shop full of tools. This is starting to sound familiar.

well according to the poll it appears that I am by far the "greenest" new woodworker here... less than a year I sure am glad for a forum like this one that has a lot of experience and a helpful attitude

My first recollection is building a pirate raft in the basement when I was 7 or 8. It had no chance of getting out of the basement. In junior high I built a 12 foot plywood rowboat that I later tried to make a sailboat out of it. It didn't sail well. The sail was made of pillow ticking (remember that?). I did make a homemade table saw out of a boughten mandrel and an old washing machine motor.
During high school and college, not much activity. When we moved to Seattle in 1963 I bought an old gaff rigged 28 foot sloop and rebuilt it. That's when I got a real table saw -- a rockwell delta and also a a Sears bandsaw, both used. I still have them and don't need anything better.
Most of my wood working has been in boatbuilding and repair and house construction. Not much furniture. My last boatbuilding venture was some time ago when I built POGO.

I first got interested in woodworking when I took Woodshop in Jr High, that would have been about 60 years ago. I got away from it other than odd jobs around the house until 25 years ago when I moved to Seattle
and had room for a small shop. My first stationary tool purchase was a Ryobi RA200 and it served me well for 15 years at which time it was replaced with a Ryobi BT3000. I can't complain about the DW746 that I now have but I do miss the BT.

I have been dragging tools around since 1953 that I can remember and I built my first toy catepillar shortly after that. My older brother cut the track pieces of 1x4 and I cut the 2x4 body myself. My father was always bringing home left over lumber from the job[he was a union carpenter]. We built our house, the cabinets, made the trim and numerous sleds and small furniture items, usually from PM plans. The last ten years I have worked less with finished wood that at any other time of my life. {I got my first contractors license in may of 1969 and my journeyman carpenters card in may 1970}.
