    Cumputer help please! (Windows XP)

A few years back my wife installed a Lotus program called "Organizer" on her computer but never really got into it and a while back she decided to remove it (windows uninstall). But since then every time she starts her PC, she gets the following message:

    "Cannot find 'c:\organize\organize.exe' ....."

    and after a click:

"Could not load or run 'C:\organize\organize.exe' specified in the registry ...."

SO, where is this registry? I tried to search for registry but no luck!!!! Is it under a different name or am I looking at the wrong places.

Thanks in advance for all your help (before she kills me )

I'm no computer whiz, but I'm guessing you have a registry problem. I suggest downloading, installing and running this free registry cleaner:

    http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_...ry_cleaner.htm

May not help, but won't hurt to try.

    Good luck with it.

The Registry is an internal 'system' of windows. It is huge and very complex, sorta the nervous system of the MS based computer systems.

You should be able to resolve your problem very simply.

First of all, even if you don't do anything, it should not be a show-stopper. Are you in any way inhibited in the working of the machine?

But if you do want to fix this, you can search the registry and simply delete this reference. Might even resolve your startup problems.

      How ? Here :
      a) Click on the Start button, then on the 'Run' option. A text-box pops up, and you type in 'regedit.exe'
      b) On the window that shows up (Registry Editor), Click Edit, then Find. Type in 'organize.exe'
      c) You should see a couple of lines that show the whole path C:\Organize\Organize.exe
      d) You can simply delete those lines without any harm.

But there are better, and maybe safer ways of resolving this. You could download and run one of many 'registry cleaner' softwares, or even 'system cleaners'. Lemme see if I can see what I used the last time I needed this.

The registry has a large number of entries, that govern the individual behavior of your PC.

Some of the entries are saved parameters for programs which do the custom settings for each program the same each time you run it. Others define what programs are used to open files of a given file type (e.g. .pdf, .htm, .doc).
Then there's some entries that define programs that are to be run at startup.
You have this organizer program in the registry to be started at startup and its telling you it can't find the program anymore.
There is a microsoft regedit program you can run from the command line BUT you had better know what you are doing because you can irrevocably damage your registry and your ability to start and run your pc if you misprogram the registry.

Just read Radhak's reply. He is correct, you can search for the occurrences of the organizer path and delete those entries, it should stop trying to run them. But, be very, very careful what else you touch!

regedit would be the best way to remove it.

You can also disable it from trying to run at startup with msconfig.

that's probably your best bet., Try that msconfig from the run option.

Thanks for all the help. Very much appreciated.

Search for "Organizer" in 'regedit' did not find anything. I then tried "MSconfig" and it showed the program. I disabled it and it seems to have done the job.

I will get a "Register Cleanup Program" to clean the whole thing as I am sure there are several other programs running in the background.

Thanks again for the help. Learn something new (Registry edit and cleanup) today.

I am wondering if this could be in win.ini or even autoexec.bat/autoexec.nt. I almost typed startup.ncf. Wonder how many of you guys remember that one?

Be careful when messing with the registry. You can do some real damage there, back up first, & make sure you understand what you are about to do. THere are a lot of registry cleaning scams out there too, so make sure you are getting a reputable one. I use CCleaner, it is powerful but still pretty much "hands on" as far setting up parameters & options.

                    Good Luck...

Could also be in the starup folder. MSConfig will tell you where it was located (the third tab, "Location" I think).

This is a common problem when trying to remove a program from your system. The best solution I have found in preventing this issue is to use a program called "Revo Uninstaller." It is a free program and will search your registry and totally remove all traces of the program. Use it to uninstall the program instead of using the program uninstall or Windows Uninstaller. It will access those unstallers and also go deep into your registry. If you use this program to remove programs from your system, you'll not have to edit your registry or disable your startups by using "configsys." This is quick, effective, and free. Here's a link:
