    Addicted to CL

    No, not those personal ads. The stuff "for sale", the bargains.

    In the last 2 weeks I have scored the following:

    A London Fog trench coat with liner, perfect condition; and a Silvertone archtop guitar from ~1962--great condition, very playable, except missing pickguard, which should be corrected when my Ebay purchase arrives. Both items cost $50.

    I'm almost to the point of not buying anything retail--will only visit local shops IF I can't score something on Ebay, Craigslist or woot.com. Anybody else have this problem?

      eBay addict here. I always check eBay first and can usually find anything I'm looking for. Sometimes just browse even when there's nothing I need. The only exception is my laptop which gets replaced every 12 months and is top of the line. The old one goes out on eBay though.

      I've picked up a few things on Craig's list, but I find the local estate auctions irresistible.

          Have you signed up for freecycle? What are your homepages? (on my notebook, one of the browsers, starts with about 10 deal of the day sites in tabs)
          She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

              I am with you all the way, and I don't see this as a problem. Like LinuxRandal, my browser opens with CL and FreeCycle, and when I get bored of other things (like work ), I check out eBay and the deal sites.

              I have a Tab-group on Firefox just called 'CL', which has a bunch of CL sales channels (Tools, Photo/Video, Free Stuff, Materials, Household stuff), but on busy days I just check the Tools and Photo sections.

              I do agree that it is a sort of addiction, because nowadays I am not looking for anything specific to buy; maybe I'm allowing my inner-female to surface (you know, the gatherer instead of the hunter) !

              But I can say with pride that everything I bought in the last couple of years has been a great savings in money; the only things I bought otherwise that I can remember during this time is the GPS unit Nuvi760(and that because I needed only that model, and it was on 40% discount), an external Lacie 1TB-HDD (because I don't trust used hard drives).

              Actually, I am considered a radical in this way : I bought my almost new Toyota-RAV4 for a steal - from Ebay !!!

                  We're really big on buying "recycled" stuff - tools, furniture, lumber, etc. I'll admit I've gotten carried away a bit at times but on the other hand, why not.

                  Look in the local Goodwill stores too. I have a perfectly good down ski jacket purchased there for $15 or so, many of my casual shirts come from there, and all of my warm fleece tops come from there.

                      Btw, Jeff, that guitar of yours is pretty snazzy! And I checked it out- looks like similar ones are listed around $300 - $400 on ebay and such !

                                  75% of my tools are from CL. No way I could afford them otherwise. The other 20% are from clearance items and a meager 5% are actually retail that I got sick of waiting to go on sale I totally agree with it NOT being a problem. Without it I would be broke or not have the tools. Both equally bad situations.

                                  I used Ebay alot in the past until I got burned buy a scumbag seller who took my money and never sent the item. This was before paypal, so I sent a money order To me CL is much better both as a buyer and seller because as a buyer you can try before you buy and as a seller you don't have to bother with shipping (specially damages).

                                  I have 7 firefox tabs dedicated to CL, 1 for slickdeals, and one for Ebay. I've known about Fatwallet but figured it just had the same items as slickdeals. For those who frequent both, do you find this to be true? Or are there alot of items you see in one that you don't see in the other.
                                  I reject your reality and substitute my own.
