Same here. Every fall I look for acorns and chestnuts for my 'local squirrels', usually without too much success. When I was a kid xx years ago, chestnuts were all over the place, now not so much. I think we need a clearing house for people with too many chestnuts or acorns to find people who want them.
You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice.

No Acorns here, but TONS of pine cones out of my trees. Not sure what the cones / seed pods from my magnolias is called, but I had a bumper crop of blooms which in turn is turning into a bumper crop of the seed pods as well...

My oak is producing nothing so far this year though. It got pretty badly damaged from Ike last year, and is still healing...

To continue the "nutty" story: We have two butternut trees on our property; but never have tried to use them as they are a bugger to crack. More hit fingers than results. Out in the front porch one day I heard this grating noise and saw this gray squirrel busily scrapping away at the rock hard shell! From then on I just let them harvest the nuts. Anything with that much tooth-power is welcome to them, just wish I could get them to share, the meat is very good. Kind of like a gourmet walnut!

I grew up in Minnesota and though I lived well away from the Iron Range, we always had taconite pellets available in large supply. They were about 65% iron, mixed with bentonite clay. Pretty much a perfect size and weight for a wrist rocket.

We had plenty of acorns too, but a paucity of squirrels on account of the taconite pellets.

You may need to think twice before walking around Brooklyn with one! I grew up in a small town where I could have walked down main street with a shotgun over my shoulder and people would have thought nothing of it.

Seems to me I have seen them in Walmart. Many sporting goods stores would have them too. And of course:
