I read your post, thanks for figuring it out. I hope to have time to run through the procedure tonight when I get home.

Recently, like a month or two, I have not been able to check my mail in Outlook. They’ve been saying for the last yrs that they will remove those accounts to have access from Outlook for free.
So if you are having problems, in XP or Vista it could be just for that. They want you to go to their website, maybe hoping you will buy something there; and if you want to have now your account again at your Outlook (any of them) you will have to pay for that.
I just decided to move all my account to yahoo.
    Hopefully this serves as informative.
I never said anything about having problems downloading hotmail to Outlook. Only about the process for transferring data like e-mail addresses to the new Windows Mail program. I'm not sure if you're talking about Outlook or Outlook Express; two different programs, & Outlook Express has been replaced by Windows Mail. Last I checked, hotmail was ultimately Microsoft offering. Why would they not allow you to download to one of their e-mail programs? Besides, Yahoo won't allow downloading to Outlook unless you sign up for on of their pay accounts.

Ray already provided a very detailed answer, I just haven't been home to implement it.

I never said that yahoo allows downloading to Outlook, I said that I moved my account to yahoo, I did not explain further. When I mentioned Outlook in parenthesis I added (any of them). Outlook Express old users were allowed for free to download email accounts (until recently), and again...sorry if I misunderstand what you wanted. I just gave my opinion about something that happened recently to me...nothing else. Hey, I'm happy you got the right answer and you are with the ball in your hands. Case ended...I'm out.

Worked like a charm, Ray. Thanks for your help. I actually didn't have to do the last few steps. Although I intended to import the contacts into Windows Mail (successor to Outlook Express), you referred to Windows Live Mail & Al R. bought up that he was no longer able to use Outlook Express with web-based mail. For whatever strange reason, Windows Mail no longer supports web-based mail servers. So, I had to download Windows Live Mail & it imported all of the contacts from Windows Contacts. It's probably better in the long run anyway. Windows Live is similar to Outlook in appearance & it puts everything (e-mail, contacts, calendar) in one program.

        Thanks again.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. When you added (any of them) I thought you were referring to e-mail accounts rather than Outlook & Outlook Express. I also misunderstood your Yahoo statement, sorry about that. It baffles me why Microsoft would do that, but, as I mentioned in the other reply, the Windows Live program is probably a better answer anyway. FWIW, I am still able to download web-based e-mail to Outlook with no troubles.

          Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.
