    District Fair

We had Our annual District Fair this last week, I didn't enter anything, but GrandDaughters

did. The 9 yr old one won 2 1st place ribbons, both for Her crafts of Blueberry candle and

She painted a nice picture of a partially eaten watermelon.

The other one is into Photography, and Her entriees were mostly photos and 3 pieces of

artwork and one recycled cup holder.

The question is, Does any of Our woodworkers enter anything?

The Grand Prize winner the last 2 years was for a small inlaid table. Just larger than

an end table, I know Lee's chess table is much more intricate and pretty. Bill

Congrats to your grandkids. Winning ribbons is such a huge ego boost. Good
for them! I'm sure they deserved them.

I love our County Fair. When I was in San Diego, everyone in our woodshop
class entered the student WWing contest. Everyone gets a blue ribbon.
There are hundreds of "competitors". The Design in Wood competition was
way out of my league with tons of entrants.

Last year, I entered the Montgomery County Fair. I was disappointed there
wasn't more competition in the 3 categories--small, medium, and large. I
took first in the small category for a walnut mantel clock. I took first in the
medium category for a bent laminated leg table with 12 piece starburst top.
The table came in 2nd overall to a Maloof rocker. I lost because I had a
little orange peel in my table top finish. The rocker definitely deserved top
honors, though, considering how much more work was involved in its
    construction.

I didn't enter anything this year but I want to take the big ribbon home next
    year. It's on!

Vicarious congrats, DUD! It's better seeing them do something well and their joy in it than you doing it yourself. Someone told me about this but I only understood it when I became a father. It's twice as good now that I'm a grandfather.
      Blessings,
