Age has nothing to do with SS, it's a state of mind. I hit that point when I would see a mother and daughter together and could describe the mother and not the daughter.

Retirement is 4 1/2 years away for me.

For me retirement is quite a long ways away. I wish some days that I could retire now. I have bad knees and very bad arthritis in those knees. Working on my feet 8 hours a day or more is hard but I have learned to deal with the pain and work through it.

Its funny that this subject came up. My mother who is 58 will be retiring next Friday October 2nd. She is diabetic and has problems with her feet, I believe they call it neuropathy? (sp), which means she can't feel her feet they are numb and so are her hands. She has had a big toe fused to where she can't move it and a couple of tendons cut on other ones to straighten them out. Her doctor has been trying to help her get her disability and it finally worked. She will also get retirement from her union, she works at Safeway.

So I laughed and told her that she would have to spend more time with my dad. she just rolled her eyes and said she would make it. But for me this works out, she is my babysitter for Thomas and for the older ones when they get home from school.

I turned 62 in May and I'm pulling the plug in December. LOML retired this month.

I retired at 62. I may have stayed longer, but most of the kind of work I was doing was going to Long Beach and St. Louis. Sometimes I miss the action. All in all, my job was very rewarding. I signed up for SS at 62 -- never can tell if I can reach 65 (I did seven years ago).
Remember the money in your SS check was paid by you at the rate of six percent plus another six percent by your employer if you were in that category, so it isn't like getting free money.
Since being retired we have enjoyed life. Traveling, building things, etc. At the moment I am building a studio for SWIMO (she whom I must obey). The stamina isn't what it used to be but I can still cut the mustard -- somewhat.
