Officially an OLD MAN

I turned 62 in July and opted for Social Security benefits NOW. I figure that by the time I'm 65, the country will either run out of money or I'll get shot by an irate neighbor.

Checked by bank balance this AM and low & behold, the Gov't deposited my first month's payment into my account (hope it doesn't bounce).

I'm still working, so this is like extra money (even though I'll have to pay tax on it or give some back), so what tools should I buy before the wife finds out about my new stash.

No, No, Bruce ---- you ain't officially old until shortly before you turn 65 and the Gov't sends you your Medicare card and OFFICIALLY declares you are OLD!!! Til then, they're just paying you to act like it!!!

I "could" officially retire now, but I am going to wait until 65 (in 2 years 4 months), . . . although I am supposed to wait until 66. I will get full benefits at 65, just a little more money (supposedly) if I waited until 66.

I retired at 60 1/2 and then got my SS at 62 wife did the same. Trouble is now we have tax problems. Not complaining though I would rather have that than some others I could think of. Welcome to being old. Best job I ever had is being retired. Do what I want, when I want, how I want. No boss, no time clock, no suspense file and no calander. 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday a week, need that to rest.

I would love to retire. If I could retire Friday, I would call in sick tomorrow. My problem is I am 2 1/2 years away from 62, and about 20 years away from being able to afford it.

Welcome to the club. I retired at 65 , got bored and went back to work. I'm collecting my S.S. but they are still taking out S.S. from my pay check. I have a "HIP" at work but they take out for medicare from my S.S. check.Obama going to get all this fixed. I can't win.
