When we had our carpets replaced, the installer from HD sprinkled baking soda
over the affected area. Worked great and we never noticed the smell again.

Just remember, once you put down bleach then you can't ever use the enzyme stuff. The bleach residue will kill / neutralize the enzymes before they can work.

++++1 on the use of vinegar. Some "wonderful" tenants in my rental had cats that peed and pooped on every square inch of carpet, subfloor etc. I used a few gallons of vinegar and it really soaked in on neutralizing and killing the smell.

In the kitchen the tenants had le the poop/pee build up so bad that I had to use a shovel to remove the mass. Discusting is an understatement; however, it made me a believer in the power of vinegar.

As much as I like cats, fire comes to mind when cleaning up after them.
