    Yes, very good explanation of the process! It highlights the necessity of automation, if nothing else. Which begs the question of who would establish the standards for information interchange, but it has to be done.

    There was a great piece on NPR a couple of days ago on which they interviewed a writer (Forbes? I'm not sure) who had just completed an extensive survey of medical systems in the major countries. He identified several variants of system - govt. run, single payer but private, public medicine with private insurance, etc. One common theme was automation. The doc writes a scrip, it automatically is sent to the pharmacist while it is simultaneously recorded on the patients wallet profile, as well as copied to the paying entity.

    Faxing forms? Really? Who uses paper? Come on! It's the 21st century.
