    Computer question...

Im not so good with computers, and mine seems to be having an annoying issue... When I surf the internet and go to different forums, I do not stay logged in. As soon as I leave the site and come back I need to sign in again... And, when I go to pandora to listen to internet radio, it no longer brings up the info on the page to bring up the music... Im not sure what I need to do to get things back to normal again... Maybe a cookie issue? Anyway, I am running windows vista home premium, and im not sure what explorer browser... Any ideas would be great!

You could always reset defaults in Internet Explorer.

If that doesn't help, I'd download superantispyware from www.superantispyware.com and also run Sophos anti-rootkit to make sure there are no viruses/spyware that are trying to grab login names/passwords.

I think you're right -- sounds like a "cookie" issue. Look for something like "Tools" and then "Options", and then maybe a "Security" tab (that's where it's at in Firefox). Set it to accept cookies.

If it's hard to find, look in your browser's "Help" file for "cookies".

      Regards,
      Tom

If your browser is set to accept cookies already, try clearing history, cache and cookies. Clearing cookies forces you to have to log into each site again but it might fix your problem. Whenever I have a problem like yours, deleting the cookie for that site takes care of it.

it sounds like you have security set so tight it not accepting cookies which identify your computer to a site as a previous visitor and saves some settings and preferences.

If the site has a "Remember Me" when logging on, have you clicked on that?

I would absolutely scan for rootkits.

There is a new rootkit going around, and one of the first things it does it deletes all existing cookies, and deletes them as they are recreated. It does this so you have to type in user names/passwords whenever you visit a site (think gmail), and it transmits that data back to somewhere.

I suffered the most recent infection on 6/23 at 7:30am. My wife had told me that the before and after pics of Kate (from whatever and Kate + Eight) were pretty amazing. I googled and found some pics. The site delivered a payload that walked right past AVG and onto the machine.

I don't know the mechanism for delivering these so they pass AVG. This isn't the first time I've seen this happen, though, and I'm aware of the behavior exhibited by the machine when it happens (it basically locks IE for about five seconds, AVG detects a virus and says it catches it, the firewall is turned off, and scanning for a rootkit immediately finds one).

But this is the type of rootkit we should all be scared of. It keeps getting better and better, and the intended purpose isn't to spawn ads, but to grab login ID's and passwords.

So, if I run my antivirus software, it should detect it and delete it?

Not unless it detects root kits. Root kits are invisible to most anti-virus software.

                  You need something like this:

I would also strongly suggest using something like FireFox or Opera instead of IE.

I would suggest using Safari on a Mac....
