I think he should have been committed about 10 years ago. I guess when people call you the greatest all the time it goes to your head. Thriller was also my first album.

Now we have to put up with 'news' stories about him every five minutes. Even NPR has been littered with no-news stories.

No kidding, It's really grating on me already. I switched between 6 TV news shows this moring in rapid succession. Every single one was doing a MJ segment.

What made me want to puke,
was a grown man on one of the talk shows, (NG I think) talking and crying on the phone about Jackson. There were others that past away yesterday, many more righteous that Jackson, who got little news coverage. Yeah, the gene pool got some what cleaned, but all those red eyed, no-life creatures need to get a grip. My post may be censured, but I call it the way it IS!Comment

You're absolutely right. There's clearly nothing at all important about one of the most influential cultural icons in modern history -- especially one who was talented musician. Cultural icons do nothing for anyone but themselves, they inspire no one, and they should be instantly forgotten once they die. Life would be so much better if it weren't for people like Buddy Holly, Elvis, John Lennon, and even those more serious "issues" like Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis, because influential artists are never important, they never do anything wrong, and they never have issues.
Just because a person has demons or skeletons (or even looks like a skeleton
) doesn't automagically negate any positive impact he's had on the world. That's just ridiculous. Of course lots of people are going to feel a loss, and of course the media are going to want to cash in on that.
He was a father, a brother, a friend, someone's son, and an inspiration to countless fans and artists. And even though I'm not really among them, my heart goes out to those who feel like they have lost something special. Same goes for Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon.

That said, I'm also annoyed by all the related "news" stories -- it's hard to find the real news through all the tributes. One network -- even late in the evening -- called it "URGENT BREAKING NEWS". Urgent?
I would have been much happier with "Signer Michael Jackson has died of cardiac arrest - tribute at 11PM" but that's unfortunately not the way the news operates now-a-days...
I agree with Hellrazor -- we're waaaay too into our celebrities when the news rooms seems to drop everything to cover them. That's not right. But I do appreciate some (non prime time) tribute to the man and his life -- I think that's appropriate when someone that famous (or infamous for that matter) passes away.online at http://www.theFrankes.com

We're not talking about drug or alcohol abuse, or shoplifting, laying a beating on your woman, or even dog fighting. We're talking about child molestation. That is the nuclear bomb of skeletons in the closet, if you ask me, and certainly is capable (in my opinion) of "automagically" negating any and all positive impact he had on the world.Comment
