    She Was There

Last night we were watching a game show on TV and a question was asked about what city the Ponte Vecchio bridge was in. Well, LOML yelled out...Florence. Of course we didn't win any money. But, she was there 2 weeks ago and snapped a few pictures, as the rules go...NPDH. Here is a short description of the bridge:
    .
Best known of all Florence's treasures, this glorious bridge was the only one of six spared by the retreating Germans on 4 August 1944. Over the centuries flooding unfortunately took its toll; few traces of the 10th-century bridge remain. Today's bridge, built in 1345, was filled with butcher's shops which would routinely discard the carcasses into the Arno causing quite a stench. Grand Duke Fernandino I issued an edict to replace the butchers with goldsmiths to eradicate the smell....

3 years ago my wife and I traveled from Rome to Venice by train and passed Florence, but unfortunately did not have time to stay a night. But Italy is just beautiful and we are planning on going back next time we go to Europe, and maybe this time we should spend a couple of days in Florence.

brings lots of money - it's incredibly expensive to visit. But it is a fascinating and unique city.

I have picture from that exact same spot!

The Ufizzi museum in Florence is, IMHO, the most impressive art museum in the world. It is comprised entirely of Renaissance art. Each room has ~10 examples from a single decade in the period from approx. 1450 to 1550. As you work your way from decade to decade, you see the mind of man change perspective from two dimensions to three. Beautiful.

BTW - Do you see the little bank along the side of the river? If you work your down there in the early morning, in order to get a unique angle for photograping the bridges, you will be surprised what the prostitutes and drug addicts have left behind for you to find!
