    Wax On - Wax Off

I've got two vehicles to wax and not anxious to get started. This may date me, but my waxing history goes back to Simonize, and then Vista (and the whipped was cool), and Turtle Wax. Of course the king of sheen was supposedly Blue Coral.

Anyway, with all the new products out there what do you car guys use and recommend?

For ease of doing, I have used both Liquid Luster, and Liquid Glass.

Now, if doing to sell, or show, and not hiring it done, I used to use, Meguire's series. (a lot more work)
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I always like the raindance products. Last time I waxed my car was a few years before that hailstorm hit in in May (may of '95). My prefrences are a little dated.

I use a product on the airplane (I wash it once each summer because it's a BIG job) that gets dirt off and also applies a little wax in the process. Does a decent job of getting the bugs off, too. BTW, little airplanes like mine are also known as "bug smashers", and one look at the wings explains why.

All good recommendations. I'm currently using Klasse, which is similar to Liquid Glass but I like it a little better; easier on-and-off. it's mail order.

If you have a True Value near by pick up some Rejex, it is supposed to be amazingly slick and last a long time. It was developed for keeping bugs and soot from sticking to aircraft.

If you are looking for something from the local autoparts store and relatively cheap try nufinish, it is similar to simonize and gets good reviews.

If you really love visiting HF, they carry colinite which also gets great reviews and is known for shine and protection.

Having worked around "Muscle Show Cars" (50's-60's-70's American) for 30 + years I took the cue of the majority of those that paint and final touch them with my choice. That be Mequires...

We just got a watering ban lifted here in Atlanta that would not allow washing cars and had to be done at an auto car-wash that uses re-cylced water. The ban was lifted just last week so I have 2 to wax also.

                Good luck and have fun...

All the talk about washing and waxing makes me glad mine is still a beater.

I used to spend a lot of time pampering my cars. That was a time before wives, kids, computers & saws. Windexing the chrome on my engines was not an uncommon happening.

Do you use anything on occassion for dust? I helped clean a friends (dust) plane, and he had us using bathroom cleaner.

Last time I saw Consumer Reports review car waxes, they rated Black Magic at the top. I bought some and it is quite good. Easy on and easy off. Cleans tar and other spots well too.

I,m probabaly going to regret telling this but in 1972 I bought a Fiat 124 convertible that had been sitting under a crabapple tree for a while for $200. Cherry red/ Black Interior. The paint was so faded from the sun exposure and tree sap I thought I,d never get it to shine. I washed and scraped and washed some more and finally got it clean enough to wax. Looking around in Dads shop all I could find was a yellow can of paste was S.C. Johnsons. I put that stuff on all over the paint, let it dry and it took me a week to get that stuff buffed off with a 6 inch buffing wheel and a drill. But I had that car for 3 more years and never had to wax it again and when I traded it in for a Nova it was still beading water

Regardless of the brand used if you want it to hold up well make sure one of the ingrediants is carnuba. Most of the easy on easy off products are going to be petroleum based and attract dust, used to be you had to go with the paste waxes to get a good carnuba based wax which meant hard work. There are some liquid based waxes with carnuba as an ingrediant now and they are'nt as labor intensive as the paste waxes.Just my 05's worth adjusted for inflation.
