    Goodbye Analog

Today is the last day for analog tv service. Our local channels all went to digital several months ago.

I hope there aren't too many procrastinators out there.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

We have satellite. We also have one of those small battery TV's in case of hurricane. So, this week I had to go buy a box to convert. LOML said what if our dish gets mangled. So, as we all know SWMBO's get their way.

Do they make battery converter boxes?

I don't know if they do. But, that's a good idea. We have a generator for the juice.

I'm glad it finally happened. I was getting tired of being told about it several times daily.

It was getting old, wasn't it. Now were going to hear the wails from those who, despite at least two years warning, plus a four moth delay, still aren't ready.

I already heard about that part on the radio today. Estimates and guesses of how many folks left out, and that they won't be seeing any more info because they won't be getting a signal anymore.

Yeah, the sky seemed a little bit different today with more digital signals floating around and significantly fewer analog signals.

I wonder if the clouds will be different in the future........

there's going to be a lot of groaning and moaning, I predict.
While an all out digital signal with good reception will be very nice, those who are in fringe reception areas and have always put up with snowy and ghosty images that were at least viewable and understandable with continuous audio will now have to put up with pictures that break up, freeze and sound that skips on and off rendering the TV program totally unusable.

The same Radio frequency signal level will be present but the way its rendered in digital will be completely unforgiving. Some people in good reception areas but lousy antennas will be able to get better antennas and be OK; those in fringe areas with poor reception cannot improve it much with better antennas and or amplifiers - you just amplify the noise as well.

There will also be revealed a sinister bias against one or more groups, whether economic, ethnic, racial, or age based. It will take the form of a plot, with participation by government, advertisers, and broadcasters who are intent on keeping people in those groups in their disadvantaged condition.

One of my teammates brought a TV to a dart playoff match last year with a digital converter. (hardcore NASCAR fan). He ended up switching it back to analog due to the poor reception. I can live with the snow, but a broken up digital signal is not easily tolerable.

We have sattelite service so I haven't experienced the digital break up.It would be annoying on marginal reception if it is similar to our signal loss during heavy storms. Just pieces of picture and sound.

Yup. A lot of pixellation. Annoying when it happens.

I sure hope we don't have to listen to a lot of whining by people who need converters but don't have them yet. It's not like they haven't had adequate opportunity.
