    A Pox On The GPS!

We decided to stop at the aquarium on the way home from the beach - it is kinda/sorta on the way. I looked at the website last night and Google maps and it said I needed to take the ferry from where we were. We could also drive north then backtrack south approx 20 miles. The ferry runs every 45 minutes. I put the address into the GPS when we left and followed it. It gave a me a route different from the up and around one. I was thinking it knew about a bridge somewhere but... it brought me to the ferry. After waiting for a while to drive the car on but was told it was full. Rather than wait 45 minutes we decided to drive the long way round and made it in less time than it would have to get the next ferry.

The ferry ride would have been cool though.

most GPS have the ability to ask for an alternate route.
Some ask you what you want to avoid when computing alternate routes...
highways, tollways etc. even certain parts of specifed roads.

Ours probably does. I've never used that feature though. On long distance trips for the most part I know where I am going, at least to get to a specific city. For local driving, I know most of the major roads around here so I will google map something, then get the car, plug in the address, then drive til I am close and let it self-correct to get me there. I refuse to believe the GPS knows the better way than I do to at least get me close.
