Congratulations on retiring soon Bruce. I turn 62 in October. I got laid off about a year and a half ago and decided I didn't want to wait to retire so I just did. Eight pieces of large carcass furniture.. yard work.. painting the inside of my entire house latter... frankly I haven't had much time to give official retirement at 62 much though.

If you get bored... bring a tent to pitch and drop by. I'll make you wish you had waited until 65 to retire. ha.. ha... ha..ha..ha..

I got a feeling your wife is going to keep you busy.. just a guess mind you but an educated guess.

Congratulations, now the real fun starts. I retired 4 years ago at age 58 and last month got my first SS check. Life has never been better. Stay busy and you won't even notice that your bones creak a little more and that 90lb bag of quikcrete seems to weigh 200lbs. You will probably find your days as full as when you were working for a living, maybe even more.

I just applied too...on line as well. Maybe there is some hope for government efficiency? Last week we did a road trip to Reno via Tioga Pass in Yosimite. We stopped at the park entrance on the way out and I got my "senior" pass for $10 which is a "lifetime" pass (scary huh?). I can go into any federal park and some state ones for free until I croak!

Several years ago I heard an interview with Walter Cronkite where he was asked how he was staying busy now that he was retired. He replied (something like) "I get up every morning and by 10 o'clock I'm a week behind!"

          Hey Guys,

I never said I was retiring, with this economy, I'll have to work up to the day I drop dead, and I can't afford that for a long time. I just said I was going to collect Social Security. And with the way things are going with this country, I hope I outlive they're running out of money.

So I still have my nose to the grindstone and will still be going to an underemployed job with underpayed hours.

I wish I could stop working, but my IRA at this point will only get me a cardboard box over a steam grate.

Hey Bruce don,t get too bummed out, but technically you have been a Senior Citizen for 7 yrs now. I just started using the Seniors Center here in Marietta this mo. They absolutely would not let me before the birth mo. of my 55th B-day which will be on the 20th. Good thing is all the freebies, weight room ,indoor pool, billiard tables ,etc that are available for free use now. These will help my ankle rehab after surgery next week. Cheer up you could be younger!

Bruce, there's only one alternative to getting old, and that ain't a good one. At 71, I can still do most of the things I did years ago. My shoulders and carpal tunnel syndrome are the only things that give me a problem, and they're not really that bad. You've got a long way to go, and a long time to get there (unlike the Bandit). Enjoy every day you have left. They do go by much faster than they used to.
