Officially an old guy

Well,

I guess it's time to find a walker and a warm shawl, I just completed my application for Social Security benefits (on line) and now I'll just wait till I turn 62- July 26.

Feels weird as I don't see myself as almost 62, I usually feel about 40 and act (most of the time) as if I was 18.

Trying not to get too bummed out about being a "senior citizen", I really hate that term, but I'll try to keep a sunny outlook about the whole situation (Yeah Right).

Just wanted to share this with you guys, someone please tell me its not all down hill from here.

Bruce, just remember you are only as old as you "think" you are. However, also remember your "mind" may not agree with this and will resist all your efforts to be "40" again, some more painful than others. But hey, enjoy the discounts!

LOML is a few years older than I am, but she too acts younger than her age. This afternoon she's scouting trailheads for some of the backpacking trips she will be leading this summer. Oh yeah, she's 4' 11".

Her mantra is, "You're only as old as the man you feel."

It is not all downhill. Every step you take will seem a little more uphill.
I had my 69th 4 days ago.

If I had known retirement was this much fun I would have done it years ago.
Remember old is 10 years older then your current age.

Bruce, it just gets better. I turned 72 last month and am still kicking strong.

At 62 I remember I could pretty much do all the things I did when younger. At 65 that was still almost true. Now at near 72 I find I can use a little help when lifting heavy stuff and it is harder to get up from a deep squat. I'm hiring a young man to help me building a fence for my garden addition.
Maybe the Sierra Nevada has something to do with my weight gain.
Anyway, enjoy these years and keep on working!!

Congratulations on retirement! I want to retire so bad I can't stand it. I am 59, and I figure to get out of debt I only have to work another 30 years before I retire.

Well my young friend, you're not quite there I think. I turn 65, the day before you hit 62!

Don't know about you, but I never felt anything for "middle age".... one day I was on the young side of most everyone and then in a blink, it appeared that I was just older.

Just take it all in stride and remember that on the inside, you're just as young as you ever were.
