So The Honda Dealer Sent Me A Letter

They offered to upgrade me from the '08 Odyssey we just bought to a '09. They claimed that they really want the '08s because there is a huge market for them used and I could get enough discounted off the '09 and get enough on the trade in that my payment probably wouldn't change. They conveniently left out that the last payments I've already made wouldn't be applied to the '09 so it would take that much longer to pay for it.

Ultimately I figure it would cost me more else they wouldn't do it.

    You would be figuring correctly.

I trade cars pretty often and I get the "high demand for your car" offer on every car make and model that I have purchased in the last five years.

If there really was that much demand auto sales would not be in the horrible shape that they are.

i don't trade cars often and frequently get mail that my car(s) are in high demand.
The make year and model of the car you drive is public information - the DMV in your state probably sells the list for additional revenue. It's easy for the Honda dealers to filter the owners that have Hondas and send them a letter that makes them think its personal (they know exactly which car you have) and make you think you have a gold mine (e.g. your model is in high demand).

How come no one was beating down my door for the '96 Grand Prix I just traded in? Thought they were going to ask me to pay them to take it.

Besides, David, you haven't even broken in the '08 yet.

I've gotten letters over the years that always state that the dealer wants my specific year and model, because used ones are in demand. Bottom line is that they just want to turn deals over. If they wanted my car so bad, they could get planty of them at auction for less. Heck, sometimes these letters come six or more years after I've traded the car. Don't believe the hype.

i run them into the ground. my experience has been that every time i've changed what i'll call "regular, for transportation only" cars, someone's making money, and it's usually not me!

Should have kept it -- now that they have killed Pontiac it will probably be like a dead artist and the price will skyrocket cause he's dead and can't make any more!!!

'course if your luck is like mine, it would have rusted away while waiting for the price to go up one cent!!!

Probably more like the Yugo; they killed it for good reason!

In case anyone hasn't heard this: Q: How do you double the value of a Yugo?
A: Fill up the gas tank!

If you are going to keep the 08, I should forward your name to the frequent callers that want to sell an extended warranty. Since they call and tell me my car (2001 PT Cruiser) is just about out of warranty and they have a great deal for me. I am sure you could get a scalding hot deal on an 08 "because there is a huge market for them used"

Just let me know your decision, I can get a referral bonus and get my warranty a a "huge discount" Just as soon as I tell them the make and model of my car.

I get the same warranty extension offers on my 87 chevy pickup. I also get calls and emails telling me that they can greatly reduce my mortage bills. That would be some feat, since it's been paid off for several years now.

Shootx, if you do that I will have your screenname flagged for banning. Thanks but no thanks. I already get all those warranty offers on my '05 Vibe.

I got a recorded call to extend my warrantee on my company cell phone. I think I even invented a couple of new words explaining why I wasn't interested.

It's probably not worth the money for you, but as you probably know dealers make most of their money on used vehicles they get for trade-in. They only get a couple hundred for new one.
