Wow, how tragic. She was young, too.

Very sad. Sometimes, the things that happen just defy reason or words.

As sad as this story is, it proves how much that safety is paramount not only for the operator but for those who intend to help. When tools are running, my family stay well back until I notice then and shut the tools down.

Wood-TV? I wish that station was available here.

Very true. Its a very sad story, but many people are obvious to the damage the stuff around them can cause. I've had a few too many incidents when people who wanted my attention got a bit too impatient and almost cause some serious damage.

That is scary but people don't always think about what they are doing. I used to trim trees for some people I know and stopped doing it because they were a liability to themselves. They didn't see a problem with walking under a tree while you were dropping 2-4" thick limbs from 30feet above them.

in a way it wasn't his fault. she should not have come up behind him while he was using a portable power tool, to try and help him when he doesn't know she's there. Now he'll have to live with that forever, feeling some fault, I'm sure asking himself what he could have done to prevent it. I suppose if he was a business he would have been required to fence off an area 6 feet or two chainsaw lengths in radius from where he was working with yellow "Keep out - danger" tape.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.
