    Harry Potter

I finally got around to watching The Order Of The Phoenix - I think that was the last movie so far. I remembered why I didn't like the last 3 or 4 books. He started to get really whiney and wimpy in the later stories.

Well, I think they're pretty good movies and very well done--great photography, some very good acting.

However--is it just me, or are movies getting harder to follow? The editing and storyline seem so random...

Like the latest James Bond--I felt like I had ADHD.

Maybe it would help if I had read the books. I plan to see it with my kids when it comes out, and they can fill me in on the details.

Reading all the books helps. I have finished the series and can't wait for the corosponding movie. The only disapointment is from the parts that have been cut.

I don't find movies all that hard to follow.

If you saw Casino Royale before Quantum of Solace, then Quantum would make more sense. Quantum begins where Royale left off. At the end of Royale, Bond shoots Mr. White. At the beginning of Quantum, they have Mr. White in the chair and are starting to question him.

I thought QoS just sucked, but then so do most movies these days.

My wife and I got ticked of when one of the DVDs sold 'extra scenes' as highlight, and it turned out those extra scenes were in the theatrical release (at least the one we saw), but had been cut from the DVD version. And no way to play the movie with those scenes inserted... We have not watched another HP DVD since.

Speaking of which, try following something like HEROES or LOST on tv. Great concepts totally bogged down in the mire of trying to be more than they are. Just for starters, I think they should issue a family tree to keep track of who's who, never mind the ridiculously over complicated plots.

I consider myself some sorta Harry Potter expert : I read all the books to my elder daughter, word by word, and now am retracing that path with my younger one. And then of course we have all the movies, watched many times over.
The earlier books have a freshness - new style, new world; but the later ones are enjoyable in another way - the kid gloves come off and death and destruction come up with abandon, making it a bit serious. But I always thought her characters were very one dimensional. Another gripe - did anybody notice that after all that many years of studying magic, Harry predominantly uses only two spells - expelliarmus and accio?

Of course, THE worst book of the series is the last one. It is so full of coincidences and red herrings that even a school play would reject. Even the death of a 'major' player seemed contrived.

As for the movies - I believe the earlier movies were allowed to be very long in duration, almost 3 hours. That allowed them to accomodate most of those books; recently, there's been so many omissions from the book just to keep them short, that one could be easily be bored or even turned off. I wish they'd be brave and not edit so much.

That, and the later books (well, up to the last one, at least) got longer each time, so there is more material, and the movies aren't getting longer. Makes it really hard to fit everything in.

But, you have to keep it short so that the theaters can have more shows to sell more overpriced popcorn and soda...

On a lark I watched Casino Royale and was once again excited about the Bond character. I thought CR and QoS were both fantastic movies for what they are (100% action-packed adreneline flicks) and can't wait for what's coming up next.

Just so you know the Final Harry Potter book will be made as a 2 part movie.
So we have 3 more movies.. Half Blood Prince (July 17th),Deathly Hallows Part 1 (Nov 2010) and Deathly Hallows II (July 2011)

Yeah I really liked CR, but thought QoS wandered badly.

I loved CR. It brought the character back to the way Ian Fleming wrote him in the books and the way Sean Connery played him in at least the early movies.

I was lost watching CR although QoS was enjoyable. It took the second movie for Daniel Craig to really portray the Bond character. I thought that Craig was very close to the Connery "Bond".

I agree with Rich, the new bond is quite like the connery bond, but with a different flair, a more arrogant and dangerous bond whereas the connery bond was more easy going. I guess at least that has a lot to do with how it was scripted. The two movies that Craig has done as Bond IMHO have been AWESOME! As for Harry Potter, I thought they were really well done...as for whiny, come on crokett, these are pre-pubescent kids, of course they are whiny! LOL
