Any good, independent lawyer review sites?

We have a family member that needs to get on social security disability due to his diabetes / renal failure. We would like to be prepared in case of a denial of benefits from the Social Security Administration, and are looking for an attorney. However all the lawyer review sites that I can find have vested interests with certain attorneys (paid memberships), or try to steer you directly to a specific attorney...

I want to see Amazon style reviews of the lawyers without the filtering by the attorney themselves... Where do I find that?

We found our lawyer via a radio ad on our favorite radio station. Hoglund, et al. specializes in disability claims.

After listening to my cousin's trials with dealing with Social Security, we decided to go to Hoglund from the get-go.

A very nice young woman came to our home and filled out the forms and then handled all the paperwork. It took about four months to get it all settled. The charge was a small percentage of the initial benefit.

My wife suffered major blot clots in her lungs on two occasions. The clots formed behind her left knee and the collateral damage to the arteries, etc. there make it impossible to stand for more than a few minutes at a time.

She's a tough old Norwegian woman (her words!), but she finally caved in and asked for help. She's 61, so her benefitreally is a one year headstart on Social Security.

My cousin, 62, can't work, due to three unsuccessful back operations and a knee replacement. He's still waiting for SS to get to his case and it's been TWO years.

Try googling "social security disability law" and your city.

    Good luck!

I sent you a message about the people that helped me get my SS disability claim through.

The only good lawyer site is "outta"...

Sorry, couldn't resist a little humor. Seriously, I'd be a little leery of something on the internet--lots of hidden biases. You can't beat word of mouth. If you have friends who are lawyers ask them who they'd use. Same technique I'd use for picking a doctor, BTW.

Not commonly known, but your State senator in Washington weilds a great deal of power over the Soc.Security Adm. My wife was denied a portion of her benefits due to a a policy misinterpretation by SSA. I wrote a detailed letter along with the documentation I had to support my case to my state senator in Washington. Within 3 weeks, my wife's case was settled, and we even got a nice letter of apology from the regional SSA office in Chicago. All of this took place after we were advised by our local SSA office that "our request for a policy reconsideration would be futile." Nothing commands bureaucratic respect more than an order from Washington. It was free and we didn't need an attorney.

Apparently attorneys sometimes provide kickbacks for referrals. So if you ask attorneys who they would use, you may actually find the attorney that provides the best kickback deal, rather than an attorney that provides the best lawyering.
