    Are you doing anything differently?

Are you changing plans, or avoiding crowds because of the new flu bug? One of my daughters and their family had plans to go to Wisconsin Dells before long, but they are considering just staying home.

We have 1 reported confirmation of the flu in northern Indiana. It was a student from Notre Dame, who had not been to Mexico, but might have been in contact with someone who had been there. They're investigating the case now. Looks like this stuff is spreading quickly.

No were not doing anything different. I understand that this is a strain of the flu that wasn't in the last flu shot, but unless I'm missing something, this seems to be blown out of porportion. But that's just me, I don't see how with modern medicine this could turn into another Spanish flu.
Awww forget trying to fix it!!!! Lets just drink beer

No I am not. However I got back from the grocery a bit ago and there were a few people walking around in masks.

Haven't seen anyone with a mask, but I got to work today just in time to see our office manager drop a pump bottle of anti-bacterial hand cleaner on my desk —everybody got one. I didn't even try to explain that Swine Flu is caused by a virus, not bacteria and the cleaner wasn't going to help.

LOML and I eat well, and both take a daily suppliment (Dr. suggestion due to the diet) including TONS of ecinacea, vitamin C and some other stuff the doc says are supposed to be good for immune boosting. (BIL is VERY sick, LOML and I are trying to make absolutely certain we don't expose him to anything...)

Only thing I have done differently is done some fake coughing in our cube farm to mess with my coworkers...

While I don't want to dismiss this outbreak (I do believe it could be serious), we have to keep things into perspective.

Every year in the United States, on average:
              • 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu;
              • more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related complications; and
              • about 36,000 people die from flu-related causes.

That did it! I was laughing so hard I started coughing. One of my cell, err, cube mates started muttering about a stake and a pile of firewood.

Full hazmat suit, 24/7. Booby trapped my property line to keep out unknown/unwanted visitors. Sanitization mist system set to fog the property every 7 minutes, 42 seconds. Except for the hazmat suit, nothing out of the norm!

Cases have been confirmed less than 50 miles from me, north of San Antonio. The medical community is on alert for anyone displaying symptoms and extra precautions are being taken to stem the spread where cases are reported. I will go through my day as normal.

When the anthrax scare was going through the Postal System I went about my job the same as normal. Although the odds of the flu affecting me are greater than anthrax was, it is also much more easily treated.

Come to the Dells! The chlorine in the pool water kills all organisms and lasts on the body for weeks! Plus the salt water taffy found throughout town has antiviral properties.

And while you're at it drive a little west to my burg and spend a few tourist dollars here (take a ride on the Mississippi, eat ice cream at the Pearl, etc.)...

A couple of years ago I put in enough Tamiflu for everyone in my family. The stuff is supposed to have at least a seven year shelf life. I do have some concern that, if the proverbial you know what hits the fan, that there would be enough anti-virals to go around.

No changes for me. The flu hit Kansas early on, but quite aways from here. I guess I am in the at risk group being a type II diabetic, but I am usually pretty healthy.

Life goes on, or at least I hope!

I think the media is doing what they always do and blowing the swine flu out of proportion. If you are not generally healthy then you are at risk from any strain of influenza virus.

This whole issue is overblown. Did you know that the common flu kills between 250,000 and 500,000 people globally ever year? Event the "horible" bird flu only killed around 250 people globally. I've also noticed that the media is not telling anyone that this thing is just another strain. Instead, they make it seem like the strain is somehow more severe than the thousand or so other strains out there.

This situation once again supports my long held theory that half the population is stupid.
