    Rod

My dad, in a farm accident, severed the end of his thumb at the first joint. The surgeon installed a plastic thumb joint. The initial skin graft didn't take, so they cut a semi circle of skin loose on his chest and sowed the the thumb to his chest until the circulation returned. All finally heeled well with the bonus of hair growing on the end of his thumb.

He was right handed and it was his right thumb, so he developed a lot of work arounds including how to hold nails (between the 1st & 2nd finger).

    Again best of luck!

I always like to ask my kids if they learned anything, and then I would find a handle like stubby or stumpy and give them the old thumbs up for a job well done. Hold it high and try ice to reduce the throb. Mine still hurts in cold weather and I only split the first inch of it. good luck

I hope you have a speedy recovery Rod. I'm continually amazed at how adaptable people are in situations like this or much worse. It's hard to imagine until you're in their place. It sounds like Carole will take good care of you in the mean time.

On a weird side note, just days before reading about this, I woke up in a cold sweat after cutting both my thumbs off on my table saw (in my dreams).
