    first motorcycle repair ...

never before have i ever worked on a motorcycle and just last weekend i went and removed the front end completely and replaced the steering bearings and flushed the oil from the forks and replaced the springs with stiffer ones. heck, the week before i cut my thumb, i even took off the front tire and replaced the rubber tire myself with no special tools. changing the tire was a chore, but i got it done.

i never knew i would ever be doing all this. i was actually scared of getting a bike and then having problems and wouldnt know what to do. the web turned out to be great resources and found a site full of nice guys like yourselves that are real helpful.

i really enjoyed working on the bike and love the mods that i just did. the bike handles a lot better.

now i just need to start on the "wwing honey to do list" some time soon, otherwise i may get banned from getting new things for the bike. she's already hinted that.

did any of you ever start up ww and then part way through, just get caught up in something else and forget ww for a long time?

I was thinking the same thing.

Wife, funny thing is she keeps wanting me to do ww projects for her, but we always end up doing something else...

You guys would be disgusted by how many 3/4 complete projects are in the shop right now. I have no idea if all my tools are still there because of the stuff in there!

It's only temporary, as some of us have bills to pay, and food to buy. But, I've been checkin' the odds that my time in winning the lottery may be close.

See all you need to do is start making jigs, stands, seal drivers and other tools for the bike from wood.. Problem solved

I need to make some custom aluminum brackets to mount the 4 pot calipers on my 77 Yamaha.
I'll be doing mock up and templates from MDF first..

None of my bikes run when I get em so I'm forced to dive in and work on em

for me, it seems like i started with getting riding gear. then i started reading on the bike and the things that people had been doing and i got a list of things in my mind of what i wanted to do. in the mean time, i keep telling myself that i got to finish the benches that i started.

so i did some extra driving lights, but i had to wire a new fuse box for all the extra electrical things that i needed. then i started with LED lights, but didnt complete it because my ww project needed attention since the last 5 months or so. Cut myself, so i ended up getting parts and did the front end of the bike.

now i need to do a couple of things for the 8k service, and i want to do this myself, so i got to do more reading and hence i am pulling away from my ww list again. hopefully i will get back to my ww project after i get this done .

i do need a few jigs, so i guess i'll just have to start making them as sscherin suggested.

in the mean time, i am having a blast on the bike. i am planning a ride in a few weeks, it should be fun! i think i'll even post some pics.
