    Old Roller Skate Recovery-Help!

My inlaws have been cleaning out the shed, garage, etc....and came across LOML's old quad roller skates. Not the ones that strapped to your shoes but the good boot stye. #2 daughter quickly grabbed them for herself. The wheels still turn but the rubber in the trucks is stiff and warped from sitting in the shed for so long. I wonder if I can restore the shape of the rubber by soaking it on hot water or something?

It is much easier just to replace the wheels I think.

I think you could probably get replacements for them. If I were you, I'd find out.

Do you know about kickback? Ray has a good writeup here... https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...mare-explained

crokett the wheels are probably steel and the mounts are rubber.
Old rubber when it is hard and cracked and distorted usually cannot be saved.
Not quite sure how to make replacements - maybe get some new rubber bushing material and cut to fit. Is there a bolt thru the midddle holding ot to the foot of the skate?

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Most roller rinks carry all the parts you need to rebuild skate trucks.

I just converted my old rink skates to street wheels.

Now I just have to get off my duff and start skating again.
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

I don't think I've used quad format skates since junior high... Now admittedly I'm biased due to the local climate creating so many skating ponds, rinks, etc. but I much prefer the in-line skate design on any kind of rough surface (aka street/sidewalk).

Anyhow, I agree with Loring, if it's really rubber I think that was a one-way reaction and you're probably looking for replacement parts rather than any reconditioning. :S
