that's only true in the insane, illogical way we annotate the date and time in the US.

Most counting systems we use most significant (e.g. largest units) first.
So in most significant first notation that date and time would be
      2009 7 8 04 05 06
Europeans are equally insane but at least they order the date elements logically (least significant first DD/MM/YY)

And don't forget the time and date are expressed in arbitrary units anyway.
So other than rolling over the odomoeter of your car, that particular time has no impact on human life, any more than a millenium, actually.

P.S. I watched the odometer of my car roll over a significant thousand milestone the other day... its not as much fun watching a digital odo roll over because it changes in an instant, not the coordinated rolling of all the 9's to 0's as you used to get with a mechanical odo.

...and we prefer to count to 12 twice during a 24 hour "day". Is it really that confusing to drop the AM/PM and just use 0400 and 1600? Then again when the date is written 7/4/xxxx is it Independence Day or Easter? Written 04 JUL XXXX there would be no confusion and no need for the extra // characters.

Back on topic did anyone celebrate PI day?

i deal a lot with Europeans and I always document my paperwork as you suggest 11 Apr 2009 so there's no confusion. except when they don't speak English and know the English abbrevs. for the months, but its usually obvious, I can figure out the French and Norwegian abbreviations for months.

I'm suggesting that both mm/dd/yy and dd/mm/yy and even dd MONTH yyyy are all wrong should be significant value first e.g. year should be first.

If we counted like we did dates, then 3 thousand, 6 hundred forty-two would be 2463.

We could shorten and clarify dates further if we used the Ordinal date system. 12 APR 2009 would be 102 2009

I'm picturing you just driving along watching your odometer, patiently waiting for it to turn over, and PLOW into the car that's dead stopped.
