My roommate after college had gone to art school, got a job at Mattel, designed some Barbie hands (Adam Smith would be proud), but spent most of his time on quality control. If he found defective dolls, he'd pull off their heads so the dolls wouldn't find their way into the market.

I spent the summer between my junior and senior year of college working for the town sewer authority. Wan't bad money for a college summer job, and for the most part the work wasn't bad - a good bit of driving around and mowing, etc. - but there was probably 1 or 2 days a week that the work requirements were flat out nasty. One day in particular.

Why would Adam Smith have been proud? Were the hands invisible???

        Sorry, couldn't resist that one.

Before the USAF, I worked for Sears mailorder stocking the womens lingerine

department . After I came home, I worked for Montgomery Ward as Manager of Ladies

Undergarments. From there I went on to some real jobs. Bill

I'm chuckling because this was supposed to be a stealth joke thread. I am also not sure whether some of these jobs exist.

I was bat boy for the Green Bay Packers for a very short while. I found out that they were not baseball players.

The far and away worst job I've had was during the summer and on weekends from 8th grade through 11th working at a company that sent out LOTS of mail. There was a little spam (better to work on), but LOTs of things like bank statements, account invoices, etc.

Every piece (in some jobs of millions of letters) was supposed to be visually inspected to make sure the address lined up with the window, then every 100ish or so you needed to open the envelope before the glue dried to ensure the various pages were still in synch (it would be bad to have Mrs. Smith's page 2 included with Mrs. Jones page 1).

The job was terrible, most of the coworkers were likely clinically brain-dead. It required starting at 5AM on the weekend, and I generally worked 55-60hr/week in the summer.

All of those were downsides, but the upside was a check that dwarfed what my buddies working at the Cluckin Chicken or the local grocery store were pulling down (double min. wage + overtime, which wouldn't be anywhere near enough to make me do the same job today...). It also made me certain that I never wanted to work on a production line of any sort again...
