    Molding or Moulding?

    A coworker asked me: is it molding or moulding; which is the appropriate spelling? I answered: is it rotting or trim?

    My dictionary of Architecture and Construction says;
    mould, moulding - British variants of mold, molding.

    I wonder if the british architectural dictionary says molding is an american corruption of moulding?

    I've always spelled it moulding.

    In United States English, it is spelled without the U...

    Is it neighbor, or neighbour? See the difference?

          I spell it moulding. That (in my mind) differentiates it from the verb molding, as in growing icky stuff on something. It also differentiates it because 'mold' is icky.

              Moulding costs more.

              Interesting, pelligrini, that your American version inserts the "u" instead of the British...

                  British Architectural Dictionaries do not even mention "molding," because it is a corruption and the word does not exist over here.

                        "Moulding" is correct on this side of the pond, too. It's not a matter of proper spelling, but rather proper terminology.

                          I was in Lowe's this morning, and they spelled it "moulding." If Lowe's isn't an authority, nobody is.
