I think it's fairly simple to explain.
People have lost faith.
Faith in our leaders and gov't to follow the principles that our country was founded on.
Faith that the leadership can make changes that will relieve the present economic situation.
Faith that society has evolved enough to make changes to protect our world from businesses and governments that put profit above our environment, our health and our welfare.
People have grown smarter. Many have acknowledged the changes we see all around us. The downfall of the world economy, the changes in weather patterns, the uncontrolled growth of the world population, Record levels of polution in our air and water.
So why hoard ammo?
Simple if all else fails you need to rely on yourself and firearms are still the great equalizers. Maybe we can avoid calamity maybe we can't but some people live by the Boyscout motto "Be Prepared!"
