    WhY Is It...

that breakups are so bitter? In a recent thread having to do with a snake as hitchhiker, someone wrote:

It was nice of him to give his ex a ride
I'm married to the same woman I lived with for 18 years and we're coming up on a quarter of a century together. Before that there were no wives but there were a couple of very intense relationships that did not last (their choice, not mine). I can't say we're that close but I still keep in touch with one of these "old flames" and my wife stays in touch with some of the men who were once important in her life. I've never understood the point of going away mad, but perhaps that's because I've seen too many bitter divorces up close.

It depends on why the breakup happened. Just like friends drifting away versus a major betrayal.

I think the bitterness you see comes from abuse and betrayal a lot of the time.

That was me, and you are right. I should not have maligned the snake that way. After all, it did not needlessly inflict pain on the man. It did not strike out just because it could.

If I'm going to make an animal to ex connection I should have waited for someone to post a picture of a .... no, that would just be mean on my part.

I have found it useful to keep up with my ex, because that way I know where she is, and can make sure that I'm not there at the same time. Finished is finished... anything else is not finished.

Bill, I wasn't being critical but it did prompt the question.

Based on the answers, it would appear the subject of divorce can be as divisive as religion and politics.

The most often quoted reason for break up is religious differences. "He/She think they are God, and I don't think they are"

Disclaimer; Not a "religious thread", not intended to invoke religious beliefs. Just us humor.

Disclaimer 2; not direct relation to my current or past relationships.

I am pretty freshly divorced and get along with my ex 95% of the time. Heck, I even let her stay in my house when she's in town.

The other 5% of the time I remember why we divorced...

Oh I realize that you were not being critical. It did however serve as a good reminder to me that it does no good to dredge up past events that are only negative, even when being flippant.

I guess there are different reasons why some divorces are bitter, while others are not. Those of us who have been married for a long time can consider ourselves lucky. It takes two to make things work.

The easiest explanation I can give, is when you learn, that love, has nothing to do with, nor does it have to, trust.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.
