    Check Your Peepholes

I might consider myself somewhat paranoid when staying in a hotel or motel. I don't go real crazy, just a little bit. After hearing stories about one way mirrors or tiny holes in the wall, I check out our room.

This story is about a couple that found a reversed peephole in their hotel door. The video of the interview indicated they were looking for some type of "settlement" from the hotel. Methinks they turned it around themselves.

peepholes are usually fisheyes with a view angle of nearly 180 degrees, and of dubious optical quality at that.

If the bed was 10 feet from the peephole a camera held to the peephole would see a view that would look like it was a normal camera lens from 100 feet away, vignetted and distorted on top of that with the bed way off to the side.

I'll bet this couple were nothing to look at anyway.

When I'm in a hotel room, and before I take anything off, I just hold up a sign to the peep hole for a few seconds that says, "Warning: Unauthorized reproduction of this video, in full or in part, is a violation of international copyright law and is subject to criminal prosecution."

I figure that pretty much covers me.

You are probably right. How would it look to be standing in the hallway peering through a peephole into a room? And, as distorted as those things are, anything seen would be next to indiscernible. I'm sure the respondent's lawyers will have no problems getting any reasonable jury to see it that way.

I like your ability to see things from the opposite perspective.

How about the reverse rear view mirror? Objects may appear larger then actual.

Are you suggesting that it is a big sign?

Yeah, there is a story about a peephole in the fence of the local nudist camp. The police are looking into it.
